Greater Akron Chamber Accredited by the International Economic Development Council

DATE: August 22, 2013

Akron, Ohio – The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) announced today that the Greater Akron Chamber has been recognized as one of 36 economic development organizations accredited by IEDC as an Accredited Economic Development Organization (AEDO).

“Receiving the AEDO accreditation from the International Economic Development Council reaffirms my belief that the Greater Akron Chamber is one of the leading economic development organizations not only within the state of Ohio, but throughout North America. This certification is a testimonial to both our members and community leaders as a significant return on their investment,” said Charles Jones, President, FirstEnergy Utilities, and Chair of the Greater Akron Chamber’s Board of Directors.

The AEDO program is a comprehensive peer review process that measures economic development organizations against commonly held standards in the profession. The program consists of two phases: a documentation review and an onsite visit. Each phase is designed to evaluate information about the structure, organization, funding, programs, and staff of the candidate economic development organization.

“The AEDO certification achieved by the Greater Akron Chamber is a major milestone for that organization and, by extension, the entire Akron metro area. This highly respected and extremely competitive designation through the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) signals that the Greater Akron Chamber continues to be a gold standard organization – both within Ohio and throughout the economic development industry,” said Laith A. Wardi, CEcD, President, ExecutivePulse, Inc.

Earning the AEDO accreditation tells the community and prospects that the Greater Akron Chamber has attained a measure of excellence assuring that their trust is well-placed and their business is in good hands. “The Greater Akron Chamber displays the professionalism, commitment and technical expertise that is deserving of this honor,” said IEDC President and CEO Jeff Finkle.

“I applaud the Greater Akron Chamber for being the first organization in Ohio to receive the AEDO accreditation from the IEDC. As a strong advocate for the business community and economic development, I’ve seen first-hand the Chamber’s leadership in local job creation, attraction, retention and capital investment, which are important to Ohio’s 13th Congressional District. This is another critical piece of the puzzle to advancing our regional economy,” said Congressman Tim Ryan.

Summit County Executive Russ Pry added, “I have worked with the Greater Akron Chamber’s team as they have led local collaborations to advance our region. Dan Colantone, President and CEO of the Greater Akron Chamber, and his entire team are to be congratulated on receiving the prestigious AEDO Accreditation.”

Maintenance of the AEDO status is required every three years and is accomplished through documentation submission and/or onsite visits by a team of the AEDO subcommittee. The International Economic Development Council is the largest membership association serving economic and community development professionals in the world. With over 4,400 members nationwide and abroad, IEDC offers the economic development profession one source for information and professional development, one voice for the profession and one force for advocacy.
